A standard IPA with that undeniable IPA flavor and bitterness. It had a tinge of some fruit notes that we were able to pick out which we generally liked. Not a very complex beer, but the majority of us preferred it over its cousin, the DIPA. It actually ended up being one of the Lizard's last place beers for the night.
The beer's first noticeable quality was the thin body. Next we discovered the prominent flavors being malt and wheat. The website describes this beer as having juicy notes but the Lizards had a hard time with that description. Most of us described the beer as average while a couple weren't a fan. The Mosaic hop came in with a nice bitterness at the end however. 7.9& ABV and 70 IBU's
This is just about as hazy as it gets. Both in the beautiful orange juice like cloudy-ness and incredibly smooth taste. This is one of those Hazy IPAs that go down so easy it easy to finish the whole pint in just a couple minutes. Some members said it taste kinda of like a mimosa (Equal parts orange juice and Champaign) Very very well liked beer. No one at the table had much negative to say about it.
This beer features a nice IPA flavor balanced with a strong citrus and sweet flavor. Some members said it tasted like straight cane sugar was added to the brew. Other argued that it comes more from natural fruity flavors. All in all this was a very well liked beer. Among the best of the night for us
This beer is a dead ringer for the OG Voodoo Ranger but with a twist in the hops. We likened to if Voodoo Ranger was dry hopped or if they made a double IPA variant. It had that strong hop flavor similar to those type of IPA but none of the bitterness. We can see why this is an experiment because it is a fairly unique beer. We were all mostly favorable towards this one.
Somewhat citrus IPA but has a strong flavor of something foreign. Throughout the course of the sampling no one could put a firm descriptor on what that odd flavor is. We did joke that it kinda taste like you just finished smoking a heater... While somewhat accurate that was much more a joke than anything else. No one really disliked it too much but it was not anyone's favorite beer of the night by far.
Pipeworks has a way of naming their beers exactly the way they taste, and this beer is no exception. The citrus flavor of this beer is absolutely our of control. It is by far the most prominent flavor and goes down way too smooth for the strength of this beer. It's way too easy to drink and is a great beer. Quite well liked around The Table
While we tend to love Hazy IPA's as a whole. This one is great because it combines that hazy hop flavor with a metric shit ton of juice flavor. The result is an extremely drinkable and flavorful beer. There isn't much to say here outside of this is an awesome beer and it well worth your time to try. Very well liked all around the Table
Expect a classic IPA punch with some familiar Midwest hop flavors. That's not to say this beer is too generic however. There is an herbal spicy-ness that becomes more pronounced the more you drink it. An intense juicy flavor is something that we noted from all beers from Windmill, and it's one of the reasons we loved them. Unfortunately that quality is missing in this beer and it hurtful in out opinion. Not a bad beer by an means but we believe that Windmill has far better options.
This beer combines 2 flavors that I can confidently say no one has ever tried before. Cinnamon and Mango. The inspiration from this beer comes from a truly heart warming story that we highly recommend you check out on Goose Island's website. As far as taste goes the mango is the more prominent flavor with the cinnamon as a lighter note. You really wouldn't think these go well together but they actually do somehow. This beer was one of our favorites from Goose Island all around the Table
Generic, text book IPA was a term that was thrown around a lot when discussing this beer. The flavor of the hops was "weird" and not very pleasing to most members, especially in the after taste. The hops have a hazy taste to them and it really doesn't work with this beer. This beer was not well liked at all around the Table
This beer was sour our introduction to the world of Sour IPAs and what a hell of an introduction! This beer takes the traits of Midwest IPAs and blends them with the sour taste that you would be familiar with. The balance between the opposing flavors is very very well done. You taste both sides of the spectrum and they go together exquisitely. This beer was very well liked all around the Table
Pours with a huge white head. Seriously, if you are pouring this yourself then, take care and pour the beer correctly by tilting the glass at a 45 degree angle. It starts out with a somewhat generic IPA flavor but finishes with an almost Sout-like dryness. If you aren't versed in other rye based liquors then picking out that rye flavor can be a little difficult. It comes and goes to me. Not a bad beer but Right Brain has better. The Table was lukewarm on this one.
The beginning of the taste comes strong with a silky sweet malt flavor. Not something that you find very often in an IPA. Right behind the malt there is an extremely subtle note of some kind of citrus. Maybe orange or a sneaky grapefruit. Followed by that, the beer finishes with a strong hop flavor that you would come to expect from Double IPA's. However, the malt sweetness at the beginning does a great job at balancing out the hop bitterness at the end. This was an extremely well liked beer all around the Table.
This beer divided the Table just a little bit during the first tasting. Some thought that it was a little too weak on the hop and flavor side while others thought it was pretty strong. One thing that we all agreed on, however, is that this beer is not going to blow you away if you're looking for something bold and unique. The flavors are very "Basic IPA" with some very subtle notes of citrus and floral aspects. All in all it was a decent beer that the Table was somewhat positive on.
Pungent was the word that kept making it's way around the Table. It stays true to it's name and is like a spinal tap when drinking. That hop flavor is going to be very strong and that bite is going to be very surprising if you aren't expecting it. There are some notes of citrus in there buried somewhere underneath all the hops. This is not a beer for beginners. We were mostly positive about this beer around the Table.
This is an interesting line of IPA's where Stone Brewing takes a single type of hop and uses exclusively that to make the beer. In this edition it utilizes the Nelson Sauvin hop. This will possibly be one the most hop forward beers that you will ever have. It is very in your face and unapologetically strong. At the same time it finishes very smooth which is very tough to do when you're working with the extremes that this beer uses. If you're not ready, that first taste might be a little rough but by the time we finished this beer we were really liking it all around the Table.
A surprising light IPA in terms of hops and flavor in general. The most interesting flavor in this beer comes from some sort of Earthy, herbalness. It was very difficult for us to pick out exactly what it was but we did agree that it somewhat tastes like basil. To be clear we don't believe that is the herb but it just gives you some point of reference. Definitely an acquired taste that you may or may not like. We were on the "may not" side of the spectrum almost unanimously around the Table.
This beer lives up to its name and it strong with a citrus tangerine flavor. While that is the main source of fruity flavor, there is just a hint of what we believed to be the pineapple that was stated in the description of the beer. It was super subtle note of a different kind of sweetness sandwiched between the citrus and the hop taste afterwards. If we had to critique this beer we would say do more with that pineapple taste since we really didn't notice it until we read the description. Otherwise, a great IPA that we were quite high on around the Table
